"Marigold Graticules"
Size: 5" x 7"
Papercutting on archival paper with vintage map scrapbook paper for background.
Graticules refers to the graphical depiction of a coordinate system as a grid of lines, with each line representing a constant coordinate value. It is a form of isoline, and most commonly used to specifically refer to the parallels and meridians of longitude and latitude. It is different than a grid- which displays the easting and northings of a projected coordinate system.
Graticules can aid in estimating the coordinates of locations and with identifying locations with known coordinates. While the coordinate system is the mathematical framework to define locations with values like latitude and longitude, graticules refer to the actual lines on the map that help visualize the coordinate system.
As the visualization of coordinate systems, graticules aid in navigation. Sometimes we need to see things, we need a vision, before we can move forward. May this "Marigold Graticules" artwork remind you of the usefulness of visualizing as you journey through life.
